Basements

You will most likely have spent $200-250/sf to get the rest of our house built (or purchased).  Based on that, $40-50/sf to have your basement professionally framed, insulated, drywalled, approved electrical installed, flooring laid, trimmed and painted is not unreasonable.

Clients tell us they see basement quotes that are all over the map, from as low as $25/sf.  People charge according to their capabilities (ask to see the renovation license of someone charging below $40/sf-you may not hear from them again) and if a $25/sf basement is adequate to you, we may not be what you are looking for. 

We can tell you that we build to Ontario building code (does the other contractor know basement code for framing and insulation changed recently?, do smooth drywall ceilings by default, and only use a licensed electrician with a permit to finish your basement to the highest standards.
